The landmarks

Palais d'Étude

Academic centre

Palais d'Étude

Known simply as the Palais, this neo-Gothic building holds the lecture theatres, seminar rooms, faculty offices and the grand library. Stained glass runs the length of the reading room; the vaults above were painted in 1868 and cleaned, by hand, over three winters.

Château de Lumière

Ceremonial venue

Château de Lumière

Perched on the hill above the campus, the restored nineteenth-century château hosts the Founder's Ball, alumni galas and academic ceremonies. Its terraces look south across the valley to the peaks beyond.

Pure Bliss Café

Pure Bliss Café

Dark panelling, purple velvet, brass and low amber light, with shelves of leather-bound volumes forming alcoves for study and conversation. The unofficial living room of the university.

Dragon Stadium

Athletics

Dragon Stadium

Forty thousand seats, home of the Dragons, and the setting for Dragon Week and commencement. On match days the stands turn entirely purple and silver.

Griffin Arena

A state-of-the-art indoor arena for the Griffins, and through the year for volleyball, concerts, esports finals and guest lectures. The Cerberus training suite lies beneath it.

Wyvern Ice Centre

Wyvern Ice Centre

Olympic-sized ice and modern training facilities, home of the Wyverns. Outside the hockey season the rink hosts public skating, the winter exhibition and the winter festival.

Getting here

Reaching St. Estè

St. Estè is reached by rail from Geneva in under two hours and by road from Sion in forty minutes. The cobbled approach climbs from the market square to the porters' lodge at the Palais; parking for visitors lies below the west range.

Visiting

Plan your visit

Guided visits depart from the porters' lodge at 10:00 and 14:00 on weekdays during term. Open days are held each October and April.
